Kicking Off Volunteer Season on the Hang Tight/Loose Trail

We couldn’t have asked for a better evening to kick off our first Volunteer Night of the season! On May 20, 13 enthusiastic volunteers and 2 Trail Bosses—alongside WRTC and BLM staff— gathered on the Hang Tight/Loose trail for an evening of trail work, community connection, and good old-fashioned rock tossing.

It was one of those perfect spring nights in the Wood River Valley, with warm temperatures, clear skies, and the scent of sage in the air. Our crew raked an impressive 5,708 feet of trail, working from Old Cutters up to the scenic overlook above Hailey, moving counterclockwise from the junction. Along the way, we cleared countless rocks, sent a few dust clouds into the air, and helped ensure the trail will continue to put its best face forward for hikers, runners, and bikers all season long.

Volunteer events like this remind us what makes this community so special—neighbors coming together to care for the places we all love. Thank you to everyone who showed up, put in the work, and made our first night out such a success. We’re looking forward to many more evenings on the trail with you all!
