CURRENT PROJECTS
QUIGLEY-HANGMAN CONNECTOR
THIS TRAIL IS CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION.
The Quigley-Hangman Connector is designed to make the unofficial “social” trail an official route that connects the new Hang Tight/Loose Trails to the Quigley Loop Trail. Hikers, trail runners, mountain bikers and adaptive mountain bikers will be able to access the Hangman drainage from the Quigley side and vice-versa.
This connector trail will be about 1 mile long, and will feature 521’ of elevation gain, great for beginner to intermediate hikers, mountain bikers, trail runners and adaptive mountain bikers. Additionally, this trail will be built and maintained to a 48” tread width allowing adaptive mountain bikers , community members with mobility limitations, beginners, and families to experience the same joy and challenge the rest of our Valley’s trail system offers. This wider tread width accommodates adaptive mountain bikes up to 36” wide, strollers and anyone needing a bit more breathing room than the typical 18 - 24” singletrack trail provides.
Samson’s rampage
Winding through the scenic slopes of Croy Canyon, the new Samson’s Rampage Trail offers a sweeping wide-open experience for all trail users. Designed primarily for motorized use, the trail delivers a beginner-to-intermediate challenge for dirt bikers and an intermediate-to-advanced ride for mountain bikers looking to grunt up the climbs. Trail runners and hikers will enjoy a South Valley trail with some “punchy” climbs that will keep you on your toes (literally!)
Stretching 5.5 miles between 5,792 and 6,410 feet in elevation, this singletrack offers medium exposure, and grades averaging 10% with occasional steep pitches up to 25%. Riders will enjoy sweeping canyon views, stretches of solitude, and the physical challenge of sustained climbs and descents.
South Valley Trails
We are the main partner with the Bureau of Land Management - Shoshone Field Office (BLM) for building and maintaining the approximately 81 miles of new trail to be constructed near Hailey and Bellevue. These trails are made possible by a Decision Record for the Wood River Valley Recreation and Access Environmental Assessment declared on March 1st, 2021. Read more about this development here.
This partnership includes new trail construction, trail maintenance, trail monitoring and volunteer work parties. We plan to build 30 - 40 miles of new trail between 2025 - 2028. Read more about the Wood River Trail Infrastructure Agreement here.
The Greenhorn Improvements Project
We are so excited to present to the community the Greenhorn Improvements Project. In collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service - Sawtooth National Forest - Ketchum Ranger District, we are bringing some much needed restoration and trail realignment to the Greenhorn trail system.
THE FOX CREEK BRIDGE scoping period
The Ketchum Ranger District (KRD) of the Sawtooth National Forest is seeking comments for the Fox Creek Bridge Replacement Project proposed to take place in the Fox Creek drainage. In compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Ketchum Ranger District is considering the proposal under a categorical exclusion. The initial stage of the NEPA process includes public scoping to obtain comments and input regarding the project proposal that will help determine key issues.
The WRTC encourages comments, and looks forward to partnering with the USFS - KRD on an appropriate solution to this perennial problem.
Please either hand-deliver comments to the KRD in Ketchum, or email them to comments-intermtn-sawtooth-ketchum@usda.gov
