A Perfect Day on the Trail: Brushing Sage at Corral Creek

On Friday, June 173, we lucked out with surprisingly perfect temperatures for trail work on Corral Creek. Fourteen volunteers from Windermere Sun Valley came out to help us brush back sage and clear trail corridor—putting in the effort to keep .71 miles of trail wide, clear, and rider- (and hiker-) friendly.

Brushing may not be the flashiest task in trail work, but it’s still super important. Trails in sage country can quickly become overgrown, narrowing with each season until the brush starts grabbing at bike pedals or scratching up legs. By brushing back vegetation like sage, we help ensure a safer, more enjoyable experience for all trail users—and protect the trail itself by encouraging folks to stay on it, rather than going around obstacles and widening the tread.

As always, the workday brought more than just cleared trail. Volunteers swapped plant IDs and enjoyed a peaceful lunch break in a perfectly shaded riverside spot.

Interested in getting involved with your own crew? Our BYOC (Bring Your Own Crew) program is a great way for large groups—schools, businesses, or organizations—to get out on the trail together. We’ll help you design a custom volunteer day that fits your group’s goals and energy level. It’s team building with a purpose, and a pretty great excuse to spend the day outside.

Thanks again to everyone who joined us at Corral Creek. We couldn’t do this work without you!
