Keeping Harper’s Dialed: Another Big Day of Trail Work with Windermere!
The work on Harper’s Trail keeps rolling along, and yesterday another awesome group of volunteers came out to help move the project forward. This time, we were joined by a crew from Windermere, who brought 10 hardworking volunteers ready to dig in—literally.
The focus of the day was continuing repairs on a section of trail that has struggled with erosion and tread damage over the years. To help stabilize the trail and improve drainage, the crew tackled the kind of project that starts with digging a very large hole in the middle of the trail.
Once the trench was excavated, the team installed a large anchor rock before backfilling the area with layers of crushed rock and soil. This kind of structure helps reinforce the tread, manage water, and create a more durable trail surface that will hold up better over time.
It’s the sort of work that can look a little chaotic while it’s happening—big rocks, piles of dirt, tools everywhere—but every shovel full is part of building a stronger, more sustainable trail.
This project is also another great example of how professional trail crews and volunteers work together. Our Hybrid Trail Crew helps identify problem areas, plan solutions, and start the technical work, while volunteer groups like Windermere provide the extra hands and energy needed to bring those projects across the finish line.
Little by little, section by section, Harper’s Trail is getting more dialed in—and it’s happening because people continue to show up and care for the trails they love.
Huge thanks to the Windermere crew for spending the day digging, hauling, crushing, and helping make this trail stronger for years to come.
