Women in the Wild: Trail Work, Camaraderie, and Rocky Rewards on Prairie Creek
Continuing our annual tradition, we joined forces with our friends at the Idaho Trails Association for a Women in the Wild weekend—returning to the West Fork of Prairie Creek to build on the strong foundation laid in 2024. The goal: keep improving this stunning section of trail, while providing an empowering space for women to connect through stewardship and shared experience.
And wow—what a weekend it was.
The weather gave us a lucky break with breezy afternoons and high clouds that made working on the exposed scree slope far more tolerable. With shovels, saws, and loppers in hand, the crew tackled everything from re-benching trail to brushing dense willow stands, moving boulders, and constructing armoring walls. Despite the heavy lifting (literally), the group kept the energy high and the spirits higher.
This weekend wasn’t just about the work—though the stats speak for themselves:
25 downed trees cleared
2 miles of corridor brushed, including 300+ feet of willow
100 feet of tread restored and re-benched
2 new armoring walls built
Additional tiers added to 2 existing rock walls
It was also about coming together. Whether it was hearing laughter drift across the drainage, spotting smiles on a scree field, or watching a tailgate chat turn into a spontaneous dinner party under a shared awning, there was a sense of connection threaded through every part of the weekend.
Moments like these remind us that the work is important—but the people make it meaningful. And with many hands, the work goes faster, the laughs come easier, and the trails get stronger.
We’re already looking forward to next year.
