Win a Bike, Support your Trails!

You’ve heard it before: the workforce who steward our public lands has been hollowed out. Between layoffs, resignations, and reassignments, public lands are running on a skeleton crew.

In some places, nonprofits like the Wood River Trails Coalition have stepped in. In the Sun Valley area—home to rides like Pioneer Cabin, Osberg Ridgeline, and Oregon Gulch—this small nonprofit has built a public-private partnership to sustain our underfunded public lands.

Back in the early 2020s, the Coalition noticed the Ketchum Ranger District (KRD) using state grants to fund its crew while struggling with rigid federal hiring structures. In 2024, WRTC launched a “Hybrid Trail Crew” model: WRTC hires the crew, while the KRD manages day-to-day operations.

When the federal government froze seasonal hiring in 2024, this experiment became critical. Thanks to a private family foundation, the Be Good Foundation, donors, and local high schoolers, WRTC hired five of the six trail crew positions while also helping fund the sixth.

The Hybrid Trail Crew (as it is called), is a seamless integration: the WRTC hires the crew members and the KRD manages the day-to-day operations of the crew. They effectively work as a single crew on KRD trails, the only difference is the logo on their shirts.

Now you can help keep the Wood River Valley’s trails amazing—and maybe win a bike! WRTC has teamed up with Sturtevant’s and Transition Bikes to raffle off a Transition Smuggler GX. Every ticket directly supports the concrete actions being taken by the Wood River Trails Coalition to maintain local trails.

For just $10, you can back world-class recreation in the Wood River Valley (and maybe score a new ride). But hurry—raffle closes at midnight, September 30, 2025.
